HOW TO MAKE A PITCHER OF BLACK MARGARITAS

You will need a large pitcher to hold this batch of black margaritas. The pitcher shown in these photos is from Dollar Tree. You can find similar skull drink dispensers online if your dollar store doesn’t have it in stock.

Start by filling the pitcher with ice. I also recommend putting your bottles of tequila and triple sec in the freezer for several hours before making the margaritas. These two steps will ensure the pitcher of cocktails stays nice and cold throughout the party.

Add in the tequila blanco, triple sec, and lime juice. Then you can begin adding in the food coloring. Start with a SMALL amount of food coloring and stir thoroughly. Continue adding small amounts of the food coloring until you get the color you want.

You can also color the margaritas with activated charcoal powder. If using the charcoal, add in small amounts and stir before adding in more. And be careful not to spill, because the fine black powder can make a big mess! When you serve a cocktail with activated charcoal, be sure to let your guests know. It can interact with certain medications, so it is important that you make sure your guests are aware.

GARNISHING A BLACK MAGIC MARGARITA FOR A HALLOWEEN PARTY

Halloween parties call for over-the-top decorations, so let’s decorate these cocktail glasses too! If you don’t have Halloween barware, a regular margarita glass works just as well.

Use a bit of simple syrup, corn syrup, or agave nectar around the rim of the glass. Instead of rimming the glass with salt, try adding some Halloween flair to the rim. Pour Halloween sprinkles or black sugar onto a shallow dish. Turn the rimmed glass upside down and press the rim of the glass into the sprinkles to coat. Now you can pour the black margarita cocktail into the glass.

Garnish with spooky decorations like Halloween straws, spooky candies, or shaped ice cubes.
